FAQs
Is the IBEX-Ultra a replacement for the Alber Cellcorder CRT-400?
Yes. The IBEX-Ultra Portable Battery Resistance Tester is the direct replacement for the now-discontinued Alber Cellcorder CRT-400. It gives battery maintenance teams a modern solution for on-line battery resistance testing, data collection, and long-term battery health trending.
Why should I replace my Alber Cellcorder CRT-400 with the IBEX-Ultra?
The IBEX-Ultra provides fast, accurate battery resistance testing while supporting key measurements such as internal resistance or conductance, connection resistance, jar voltage, temperature, DC current, and ripple current. It is designed to help teams continue critical battery maintenance programs with updated hardware and Exmons Ultra+ Software support.
Can I continue trending battery data after moving from the Alber CRT-400 to the IBEX-Ultra?
Yes. The IBEX-Ultra is designed for dependable battery health trending through Exmons Ultra+ Software, allowing users to store, analyze, compare, and report battery test data over time.
What is the importance of resistance testing?
Resistance testing is an integral part of a complete battery maintenance program. It helps diagnose battery health and provides data that can be used to trend performance throughout the battery’s service life.
What type of cells can the IBEX measure?
The IBEX can measure 1.2V, 2V, 6V, and 12V cells up to 6,000Ah.
Can I test my system while it is online?
Yes. The IBEX has a built-in ripple-removing algorithm to help ensure precise measurements, even while the battery system is on float charge.
How long does the IBEX take to display testing measurements?
The IBEX takes less than 3 seconds per measurement.
How many results does the IBEX store?
The IBEX-Ultra stores 4,800 results internally. For long-term data management, we recommend storing all test data in the Exmons software database.
How often should I calibrate the IBEX?
We recommend annual calibration.
Can I field calibrate the IBEX?
Yes. If necessary, the IBEX can be field calibrated for improved performance.
Does the IBEX work with Ni-Cad batteries?
Yes. The IBEX is compatible with VLA, VRLA, Ni-Cad, and other battery types.
How large is the measurement test load used by the IBEX?
The IBEX injects less than 2A per cell.
How long does the IBEX battery last?
The IBEX includes two Li-Ion batteries. Each battery powers the unit for approximately 3–4 hours.
What if I only want Excel data?
Excel files can be created through Serial Com or Exmons software.
Can measurements be taken in Siemens instead of Ohms?
Yes. The IBEX can take measurements in either ohms or Siemens. Only one measurement unit may be set at a time, and that setting applies to the entire dataset. Switching between Siemens and ohms requires a unit reset, so existing data should be transferred from the IBEX before changing measurement units.
What are the advantages of using Exmons software?
Exmons software supports extended data analysis, report generation, historical data trending, data loss protection, and long-term data storage beyond the IBEX-Ultra’s internal 4,800-result capacity.
What is Exmons Ultra+?
Exmons Ultra+ is software developed for use with IBEX-Series Pro and Ultra models. It allows users to transfer data into a central database, generate reports, view data in charts and graphs, and compare present and historical battery trends. Exmons is limited to use with measurement units set to ohms.
If I get a new PC, will I lose my data?
If your PC is damaged and you do not have a backup file, the data may be lost. If you are upgrading your PC, you can export the entire database to the new PC. We recommend periodically saving a backup database to a flash drive.
How many PCs can my database be installed on?
There is no limit to how many PCs the database can be installed on. However, each database must be updated independently through IBEX transfer or database export whenever new measurement data is recorded. We recommend using a dedicated PC for your battery maintenance team.
If my IBEX is damaged, is my old data compatible with my new IBEX?
Yes. Exmons is designed to work with any IBEX Pro or Ultra model. The IBEX-EX model is not compatible. This allows large battery maintenance teams to use multiple IBEX units within one shared database.
Do you have additional literature for the Exmons software?
Yes. In addition to the dedicated Exmons user manual,
What are the PC requirements for Exmons Ultra+?
The recommended minimum PC requirements are a dual-core 1.8GHz processor, 2GB memory, 100GB disk space, and display resolution of 1280×1024.
Can I incorporate specific gravity data into Exmons?
Yes. Exmons is designed to work with the SG-Ultra and SG-Max when used with a special IrDA adapter.
